A mother is said to have texted her friend over fears her husband Alex Murdaugh was up to hours before she and her son were killed.
Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and Paul, 22, were found shot to death on the family’s South Carolina farm in June 2021.
Alex, who was separated from Maggie, had allegedly asked her to see his ailing father Randolph Murdaugh III, 81, who had been hospitalized.
She wanted to meet the 54-year-old at the hospital, but he reportedly demanded they meet at the family property.
She planned to follow Alex to the hospital in her car.
Maggie texted her friend as she feared his behavior was “lazy,” police officers told PEOPLE.

She reportedly told her boyfriend, “He’s up to something.”
A source told CNN that blood spatter was found on Murdaugh’s clothing, suggesting he may have been close to at least one of his family members when they were gunned down.
And according to FITSNews, a significant amount of high-velocity impact spatter was found on the shirt Murdaugh was wearing that night.
Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey revealed that Maggie and Paul were found on the ground near the family’s dog kennels, both dying from multiple gunshot wounds.
A grand jury indicted Murdaugh on two counts of murder and dual possession of a gun.
Murdaugh has pleaded not guilty and was denied bail in connection with the charges at his arraignment hearing.
He has vehemently denied any involvement in the murders.
His legal team said: “Alex wants his family, friends and everyone to know that he had nothing to do with the murders of Maggie and Paul.
“He loved her more than anything.”
Video footage has since been recovered from Paul’s cell phone.
Murdaugh did not appear in the clip, but he was reportedly heard talking to Maggie.
A timestamp showed it was shortly before her death.
Murdaugh called 911 after finding Maggie and Paul shot multiple times.
Paul sustained wounds to his torso and head from a shotgun, while Maggie was presumably killed with an assault rifle.
Authorities said Murdaugh sounded deeply upset and upset when he called.
He immediately identified himself and told officers that his wife and child had been shot dead on his property.
‘IT’S BAD’
He said: “I’ve done it now. It’s bad.”
Murdaugh has already been jailed on dozens of charges, including fraud to fake his own death.
In September 2021, Alex reportedly hired a hitman to kill him so his remaining son “Buster” could collect life insurance funds.
He also admitted to a secret 20-year opioid addiction.
In 2019, Paul was involved in a boating accident that killed 19-year-old Mallory Beach.
He allegedly drove the crashed boat and threw the young girl off the ship. Her body was found seven days later.
The group on the boat were “heavily drunk,” according to police, even though they were all underage and not legally allowed to buy alcohol.
Last month, South Carolina authorities announced they would be exhuming the body of the Murdaugh family’s former housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, to further investigate her death.
Satterfield died in 2018 after allegedly tripping and falling at the Murdaughs’ home, where she had worked for two decades.
Last year, SLED announced it would open a criminal investigation into her death.
Satterfield’s manner of death was ruled “natural,” but Murdaugh told her sons that he was personally responsible for the fall and that he would “sue himself,” according to court documents.
