The Expanse season 5 on Amazon Prime Video
Season 5 of The Expanse landed on Amazon Prime Video on December 16th, 2020.
The new instalment continues the story of the Rocinante and its crew as its various characters have their own personal battles to face this time around.
However, the tension and stakes are ramped up to their highest point yet as a new threat emerges as a rogue faction of Belter terrorists looks to wreak havoc on the expanding human colonies.
Where was The Expanse filmed?
- The Expanse was filmed primarily at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada.
Filming for the new season began on October 23rd, 2019 and continued until February 2020 according to The Cinemaholic, just missing the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Toronto’s Pinewood location is one of the biggest film studios in Canada and boasts 11 sound stages including the ‘Mega Stage,’ one of the biggest purpose-built sound stages in North America.
For outdoor locations in The Expanse, Pinewood Toronto Studios also features a gravel-based backlot which, with the right set dressing and effects, can be made up perfectly to look like the surface of a distant planet.

Canada and especially Toronto is a hugely popular filming location for film and TV crews and it’s no surprise that The Expanse has made the city its home.
According to IMDb, Pinewood Toronto Studios has played host to over 80 productions since the facility opened in 2008.
These have included 2017’s IT, Schitt’s Creek, Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles, Suicide Squad, Shazam!, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and fellow sci-fi series Star Trek: Discovery.
